(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. tonight at 11. we start with a developing story out of oakland. where police say five people have been shot. the incident happened at a home on seminary avenue shortly before eight-this evening. authorities say all five victims are in stable condition. police do not have any suspects in custody. authorites say the suspects fled the scene in a car. we'll continue to bring you the latest on kron4's morning newscast starting at 4 a-m. >> tonight at 11.

terrifying moments on telegraph hill. police say a man attacked a woman last night. breaking into her san francisco home. assaulting and attempting to rape her. police say 25-year-old jovan jones was eventually tracked down. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports. that may not have happened so quickly if not for a good samaratan getting involved. tonight at eight. we tell you about terrifying moments on telegraph hill. police say a man attacked a woman last night. breaking into her san francisco home. assaulting and attempting to rape her. police say 25-year-old jovan jones was eventually tracked down. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports. that may not have happened so quickly if not for a good samaratan getting involved. this is where the san francisco police department says. a 26-year-old woman was assaulted saturday night. alta street. a small road on telegraph hill with no outlets. pocice say at around eight at night. the woman was entering her home. when 25-year-old jovan jones of marin city snuck up on her. forced his way into the home and threw the woman to the floor. police say he demanded money and some her stuff. then, threatened to kill her and assaulted her. police say someone outside of the home saw what was happening. and called 9-11. when police arrived. investigators say jones jumped off the balcony and ran off. less than an hour and a half later.

c-h-p says a single car appears to have crashed into a guardrail shortly after 8-15 this evening. authorities say the crash may have caused the vehicle to catch on fire. one person has been transported to s-f general. no word on the victim's condition or if there were any other injuries. also new at 11. two santa rosa brothers are in custody today after firing an assault rifle at a home when they were thrown out from a party early this morning. the shooting was reported shortly before two this morning on lutztown court. police say a tan jeep drove into the area. firing at the house. and then collided with a parked car. the two were involved in a fight at the party and were asked to leave. only to return ten minutes later with an assault rifle. police later located the vehicle and traced it to the apple valley lane apartment complex and arrested alexis rueda and his brother eduardo rueda. the assault rifle was later found in a nearby shed. in east palo alto, a man is recovering after being stabbed this morning. the stabbing happened at an apartment complex on east o'keefe street. police arrested david yun. on suspicion of attempted murder and domestic violence. they say the two men were partners. the 34-year-old victim was taken to standford hospital

where he's being treated for multiple stab wounds. he's in stable condition tonight. guests staying at the san jose hilton hotel were evacuated this morning. officials say at least one floor of the hotel was cleared out.after police say an unknown substance was sprayed on the 18th floor. the fire department inspected the hotel and allowed guest to return inside an hour and a half later. police say the did not know what the substance was. but declared the hotel is safe for guests. >> new information is surfacing about the body found at novato disposal in petaluma on friday. the man has been identified as 30- year-old luis gomez-diaz originally from mexico. gomez-diaz lived in both eureka and santa rosa but was currently transient. he would stay with relatives in the santa rosa area periodically and knew people in the petaluma area. he was last seen alive on thursday evening in santa rosa. authorities are still trying to determine how gomez-diaz's body got to

let you know when there's warmer weather, coming up. >> after a 113 day lockout the san jose sharks are back out on the ice for their first day of training camp. kron4's maureen kelly was there along with some very excited fans. the team got a standing ovation. as they came back into their practice rink in san jose. >> we have been waiting for a day for the long time it is been kind of born without the sharks. >> fan jeff han was made sure to bump fists with every player. in return for that warm welcome.the team raised their sticks in salute to the people who have stuck by them during the long months of the lockout. >> it shows that they appreciate it and we appreciate them. >> reporter: as the goalies blocked slap shots and the stars of the team charged the ice and battled over pucks.the fans wearing teal and balck in the stadium looked on with a mixture of excitement.and relief.that they'll be getting a hockey season after all.even though it will consist of only 48 games instead of 82.

>> in national news. connecticut school shooting newtown weighs fate of conn. school where 26 died parents of sandy hook elementary students are divided on whether their kids should return to the school building where a gunman slaughtered 20 first- graders and six adults last month. many of them made passionate arguments at an emotional public meeting sunday. school on the day of the shootings but weren't hurt, says the children shouldn't but stephanie carson said she can't imagine ever sending her son back to the building. their input. some newtown residents want to see the school demolished and a memorial built on the property in honor of those killed in the massacre. others say the school should be renovated and the areas where the killings occurred since the newtown, connecticut school shooting. it seems the conversation about gun control gets louder and louder. april williams has the

arms until congress can come to an agreement. >> is going to take a long time before an agreement and closure after that terrible massacre. april williams, kron 4 >> lance armstrong says that he is ready to speak candidly as he prepares for an interview with oprah winfrey. rumors have been swirling that armstrong is ready to admit his use of performance enhancing drugs in the interview. that interview is scheduled to air on thursday. a person with knowledge of the situation has said that armstrong will give a limited confession and apologize. this would be the first public response to a u.s. anti-doping agency report that accused him of using the banned drugs to win the tour de france. in the past armstrong has strongly denied doping. >> the venezuela government says that president hugo chavez is conscious and responding to treatment for a respiratory infection as he continues to stay at a cuban hospital. while the infection has

been controlled chavez is still suffering from respiratory deficiency. chavez has been fighting this infection since undergoing cancer surgery. >> survivors of the costa concordia. the cruise ship that ran aground off the coast of the small island of giglio one year ago today. returned to the island to pay their respects. 32 people were killed in the accident. the captain of the vessel is being accused of manslaughter and is currently awaiting an indictment decision. the ship remains on its side off the giglio coast. it now appears that crews will need until september to get it upright and removed. the project is now estimated to cost over 530 million dollars. >> clear, cold for this in january evening. plenty of flights around the city hall but i think that the red and gold. all run the, cold. it

warriors would fall flat in denver losing to the nuggets 116-to-105. next up the warriors face the defending champions in the miami heat. that game on wednesday night here in oakland. as the divisional round of the n-f-l playoffs comes to an end it featured a match- up between the new england patriots and the houston texans. tom brady became the winningest quarterback in postseason history. throwing for three touchdowns and leading the patriots over the texans 41- to-28. the patriots advance to the a-f-c championship game to play the baltimore ravens for the second straight year. this after the ravens beat the broncos 38-to-35 yesterday. we now know.the atlanta falcons will face off against the san francisco 49ers next sunday. kron 4's reggie kumar tells us some niner's fans wanted seattle to win today, because the nfc champioship game would have been played
